Viewing catalogs and lecture
11. 6. 2015 from 4:00 PM
The Ljubljana Graphic Biennial − one of the largest art events − is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. That is why the Biennial has taken its suitcase and set off to Slovenian libraries to reveal numerous anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories of the intertwining
culture and art, preserved in our rich biennial archive, and announces the 31st Biennial of Graphic Arts entitled Above You/You.
For example, visitors will learn how Zoran Kržišnik visited Ven Pilon and Zoran Mušič in Paris in the early 1950s, with their help collected dozens of École de Paris graphic sheets and smuggled them into Ljubljana, how closely the Ljubljana Biennale and the Albertina in Vienna were connected at the time, and how it came about that Robert Rauschenberg exhibited at the Ljubljana Biennale before the Venice Biennale. The suitcase also contains old biennial catalogues and posters. These will be available to view from 4 pm in the Levstik Hall of the Celje Central Library, where a lecture on the history of the biennial will also be held at 6 pm.
