PIALI ASHAL ALO – Let's preserve Slovenia, help India
5. 5. to 18. 5. 2015

An exhibition of photographs by Tamara Bizjak with glimpses of children from the Piali Ashar Alo school and their village near Kolkata, India, will be on display at the Celje Central Library during the charity concert Let's Save Slovenia, Help India as the conclusion of the campaign of the same name, in which Slovenian primary and secondary schools and individuals collect waste paper or raise money in other ways for their peers in India who would otherwise not have access to primary education. The campaign has been running for the seventh year under the auspices of Dr. Romana Jordan, organized by the Humanitarian Association Luč upanja, and the charity concert is being prepared by the 1st Gymnasium in Celje with guests.

Tamara Bizjak is a photographer and graphic designer. She says the world is her home, full of undiscovered paths and bright smiles. Since 2009, when she first visited Piali Ashar Alo School, she has returned almost every year. She especially enjoys capturing the growth and progress of the students, as well as the pulse of the entire village community. “It’s really nice to see so much genuine joy and desire for education! The students’ English is getting better every year, the older children are now my translators in conversations with the locals!”

The photos were taken in August 2010, when she volunteered at the school for a month.
The exhibition opening will be on the library platform, and the photographs will be on display in the library lobby until May 18th.
