In this symposium, the speakers will give us their own understanding of the concept of "world citizen" and thus encourage us to explore and deepen the fact that a world citizen is someone who has transcended the identity of the nation or community from which he or she comes. Such an individual has thus freed himself or herself from attachment to the associated cultural and spiritual heritage, but still respects it! The identity of a world citizen has "expanded" in the creative search and implementation of a quality culture of tolerant coexistence and mutual respect with people of different opinions, from different cultural backgrounds.
Others, again, may try to convince us that the concept of "citizen of the world" is idealized and practically unrealizable, or that it does not represent an ideal for them because they want to retain and are proud of their national identity...
The lecturers will also introduce us to the obstacles and burdens of a social, cultural, political, and economic nature that plague much of today's world and prevent individuals from becoming global citizens.
With us will be: With us will be: Dr. NEŽA KOGOVŠEK SALAMON, Dr. MACA JOGAN, ARISTID HAVLIČEK – TILI, NINA MEYERHOF from New York and KAREL GRŽAN.
The second symposium will take place in the Levstik Hall of the Central Library of Celje, on November 25, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
