The Celje Central Library is a general library that provides library services as a public service in the area of the City Municipality of Celje, with a central unit in Celje and a mobile collection in Šmartno in Rožna dolina. Under the contract, it also provides library services within the framework of three local units in the areas of the municipalities of Dobrna, Štore and Vojnik.
It is the central regional library for the Celje region and performs special tasks of the central regional library for eleven central libraries (Anton Sovret Library Hrastnik, Laško Library, Mozirje Central Library, Rogaška Slatina Library, Slovenske Konjice General Library, Šentjur Library, Šmarje pri Jelšah Library, Tone Seliškar Library Trbovlje, Velenje Library, Mile Klopčič Library Zagorje ob Savi, Žalec Intermunicipal General Library).
The library pays special attention to the development of reading literacy among all age groups of users, organizing a rich program of cultural events for all age groups throughout its library network. The library operates a University for the Third Age, which offers a wide range of education and other activities.

Our services in the field of education, culture and information dissemination enrich the individual and thus the wider community. Through the library, knowledge and spiritual wealth from all over the world are accessible, while at the same time we communicate to the world who we are and who we are. Our library is one of the cornerstones of local and national identity. As the central regional library, we promote professional development in the area and, in cooperation with libraries in the area, we ensure the rational organization of library activities.

We want to become one of the indispensable city and regional cultural and educational centers for the largest possible number of people. Following the example of the best world libraries, we will build our expertise and content capacities in such a way as to support the development processes of the city and its wider area. In doing so, we will not forget people with special needs, since understanding others is a fundamental condition for social development and human culture in general.
