Fran Vesel (1884 – 1944), a photographer from the early 20th century who dedicated his work to creating images of his native environment and its people, belongs to a group of Slovenian photographers who marked the development of photography on our soil with their work. His first photographs date back to the first decade of the 20th century, when he devoted himself primarily to photographing Slovenian cultural figures of the time and presenting the cultural and historical peculiarities of the Slovenian environment. The earliest photographs are dated to 1900, when he set about displaying the installation of the "First Slovenian Art Exhibition" in the City Hall, and 1905, when he created portraits of Ivan Cankar in Vienna, and in Ljubljana, he recorded the discovery of the Prešeren Monument with photographs.
