Twelve-year-old Juha grows up in the suburbs of Stockholm, together with his younger sister Marianne, his father Bengt and his mother Ritva, who comes from Finland. Juha is the class clown and his mission is to entertain his classmates with sketches, funny stories, humorous songs and jokes, but the deep desire hidden behind his entertaining mask is to be loved, accepted and popular. Juha goes to school every day with his neighbor Jenny, who he says he "never needs to bribe" and is always there, but he still easily turns her down if the three top students in the class show up. Through a combination of circumstances, Juha, Jenny and Thomas, the class scapegoats for ridicule and mockery, end up together as three outcasts. Although they have landed at the very bottom of the popularity hierarchy, they still do not forget how little it really takes to have a good time. But every period in life ends, and our heroes also end their second three-year term, and their common path diverges. Juha wants nothing more than to escape somewhere else, away from the petty-bourgeois town that suffocates him.
