The novel is a moving story about growing up and grieving. At the instigation of the school psychologist, ninth-grader Lucija begins to keep a diary. In it, she writes down her feelings about the loss of her younger sister. She cannot and will not escape her listlessness, the pain of remembering her sister paralyzes her.
In her diary, she describes her everyday life at school and her family, who seem to be increasingly alienated by the loss. But eventually things start to turn for the better. Lucija manages to collect the necessary points to enroll in an art high school, falls in love, and something else happens: a refugee girl, Suri, comes to live with her family. Lucija initially rejects her, not wanting anyone to take Katja's place, but she slowly becomes attached to her. Lucija's life regains meaning, and the pain gradually fades away.
