In the novel Kicking the Moon, the main character is nine-year-old Sara, who wants to become a soccer player more than anything else. In order to make her great wish come true, she must overcome numerous obstacles at home and among her peers, despite the support of her friends, Gabro and Dani. Will Sara give up, like her mother once did, who wanted to become a ballerina as a child? The novel intertwines numerous threads in an attractive way: soccer, love, astronomy, modern lifestyle, violence, spoiling, forces of nature (drought, storm, the arrival of spring), history (Columbus' discovery of America) and a whole mountain of imagination. The story introduces us to a completely unknown world of Uruguayan children, which is in many ways similar to ours, but also very different, perhaps because life in this part of the world is calmer, closer to the natural rhythm and happiness that everyday things bring. The novel is the winner of the prestigious Uruguayan prize for literature El premio Bartolomé Hidalgo.
