The story follows 16-year-old Felix, known for his prudence, seriousness and responsibility – adults often describe him as an “old soul”. After his mother’s death, he takes care of his younger sister and lives a seemingly perfect, but in reality very lonely life. Tired of his role as his younger sister’s guardian, he wants more time for himself and hopes to find friends. One day, in an abandoned villa, Theodora meets the rebellious and mysterious Lina, who identifies herself as a witch and is not afraid of anything. Despite their differences, they start to meet regularly in the haunted villa, especially since strange things start happening around the house. Is it really haunted?

As they investigate the strange events in the house, an unlikely friendship develops, helping Felix confront his own fears, loss, and feelings of guilt. Felix finally begins to live, but he still feels responsible for his father and sister, and has problems with his peers. While exploring the old house, he discovers the meaning of true friendship and learns to stand up for himself.

The story is a blend of contemporary teenage reality, supernatural atmosphere and a profound metaphor about courage – about the moment when you decide to leave the safe familiar environment and step into the unknown, just like the first fish that once left the water. The novel skillfully interweaves humor, sensitivity and tension, encouraging young readers to find their own path and overcome their inner boundaries. Anne Hoffmann deals with difficult topics with subtle lightness and without melancholy. The book has received numerous positive reviews for its depth and power to attract young readers.
