The poem Too Polite by publicist, translator and poet Nataša Velikonja comes in a single long sentence, with the intention of being read in one breath, to suck us into the vortex of the author's train of thought, between pain and irony, between power and love, between exile and self-exile. It is precisely this latter that gives the literary resistance to nightmares – this hybrid of realism and poetics – a purifying power for moralizing that is beyond any moralizing, and establishes a mirror image of the dark ages and the psyche, which, in the fight for survival, breaks through the thicket of lies, deceptions and false morality. Even more than in previous literary engagements, Velikonja erases the boundaries between the personal and the social and throws wide the door into the world of young intellectuals and the LGBT world, this time extremely critical, self-critical and depersonalized. A passionate, unforgiving and uncompromising text that shuffles drawers and calls for echoes.
