The novel tells a story with two equal heroes, a husband and wife, who in no way fit into traditional notions of married couples and did not even get married with the intention of creating a family, which we still talk and hear a lot about in Slovenia, often as a kind of timeless value. The heroes of Stanj embody and represent everything else that is inconsistent with the concept of a traditional family, modern narcissism, complete commitment to a career, hedonism and at the same time skepticism, uncertainty and fear of the future. Perhaps that is why they persist with each other, even if they do not see a deeper meaning in it; nor in trying to live differently. However, this does not mean that they are desperate; they simply live beyond some of the usual considerations, values and goals. (Emka.si)
