In the sequel to Imaginary Worlds, Edgar, Floria and Kvint visit Pan Noma, the capital of Incrematera, as part of an important conference and parade of the Defense Platoon, where the oldest black sorceress casts a persistent evil spell on Edgar. As a result, Edgar loses control of his dragon Nightmare every time Kazimir – the new dispeller – dispells someone Edgar knows remotely using self-hypnosis. In an increasingly cruel and extensive war, in which no one's conscience can remain clear, friendships quickly turn into enmities, and enmities into dangerous friendships that can have catastrophic consequences for the future of Incrematera.
