Hot combinations
Plantings for drought and heat
Review of Bukla
The author, a graduate agronomist, wants to solve the problem of frequent dry periods in this book, which, in combination with poor soil, most often cause rather poor and monotonous ornamental garden plantings. He is convinced that with a better knowledge of perennials and their appropriate combination, even a dry garden could shine in all its beauty. The beginning of autumn, when the soil is still warm and also more humid, is the right time to plant perennials. There are more suggestions and color combinations in the book than there are colors in the rainbow. The picture-rich manual leads us from lavender-purple planting (without using lavender), through golden yellow (here, bearded irises are accompanied by yarrow and various milkweeds, as well as daffodils and torch lilies), and for lovers of copper color, he recommends a combination of buttercup, brown foxglove, orange sedge, purple onion, sun-wort and the like. There are many garden combinations for different tastes, but of course they must all be adapted to the surroundings.
