When the writer, as a schoolgirl, only sixteen years old, learned about the arrest of her classmates, she was horrified. But when they came for her, she was speechless. She could not believe that this had happened to her, because she had done nothing wrong. It was at a time when the Shah was overthrown in Iran and Ayatollah Khomeini came to power. She was taken to the infamous Evin prison as a political prisoner. There she was tortured, beaten and sentenced to death. She was saved by the guard Ali, who fell in love with her and managed to have the death sentence commuted to life imprisonment... Her story had a happy ending. She escaped prison and forced marriage and moved to Canada. But there were many, too many, who died behind the walls of Evin.
