The story begins in 1991. A nine-year-old girl from Vukovar travels to the seaside with her brother, but her vacation does not end with a return to her old school desks. The novel Hotel Zagorje is a story about a girl's growing up during seven years of exile, spent with her mother and brother in a nine-square-meter room, striving for a more decent apartment and waiting for news of her father, who remained in Vukovar. But Hotel Zagorje is not a gloomy book. The girl's growing up is woven from similar experiences as all growing up: gaining experience about life, shaping her personality, making friends, and youthful loves. The book does not lack humor and irony, and a fresh, youthful view of the world. The author received the award for best prose work in 2010 for Hotel Zagorje.
