The novel And in the Mountains of Echoes is not an epic narrative, as the title might suggest, but it is a musical outline of life, to which are attached insightful stories of individuals, or stories in a story about a brother and sister who were separated by fate early in their growing up. The narrative is entirely believable, readable and emotional, spanning several decades and a number of different countries, and so removed from Afghanistan that we wonder whether we might not only get a glimpse of this in the author's next work. Worth reading!
