A Year Goes By, a Day Never Comes is a book that is sure to leave an impression on the mind. The author Žarko Laušević was one of the best young actors of the former Yugoslavia. He received numerous awards for his acting performances. One hot August day in 1993, however, his life was completely turned upside down. In self-defense, he killed two boys and seriously injured one during a fight, so he spent time in prison during the turbulent period of the breakup of Yugoslavia. Based on prison notes, a diary was created that is a reflection of a lost past, life in prison, anecdotes from the author's life before the tragic event, longing for unattainable love and regret. All of this is connected by thoughts about (non)meaning and passing away, which make up the entirety of the author's life from the pieces of the mosaic.
