British writer of Japanese descent Kazuo Ishiguru has already introduced himself to Slovenian readers with the books The Remains of the Day and When We Were Orphans. Never Leave Me is a poignant, subtle tale in which the narrator Kathy tells us about life behind the fence of Hailsham. Hailsham is an elite school in the English countryside, secluded from people and outside influences. Hailsham students know nothing about the outside world and do not come into contact with it until they are sixteen. It is only when they leave the estate that they learn all the cruelty of real life.
