After the Second World War, when the world is destroyed and the nation is marked by losses, crowds of passengers find themselves in Mediterranean ports, on ships crossing the oceans – on a journey with their stomachs full of bread. Most passengers have at least someone after the war, but among them are also those who have nothing left and who go into an uncertain future only because they are driven by some hope. Such are Ela and Julius, both Jews from the Prekmurje region, who were robbed of their youth and are each traveling alone. When they meet on the ship, they give each other the only thing they have: the stories of their lives and human closeness. Stay with me, my soul is thus a call from one person to another and a great longing of wounded hearts… Will it be heard? The special thing about Dušan Šarotar's novel is that, in addition to being written in the literary language, it is also written in the original Prekmurje dialect. The writer dedicated it to "Julius Schőnauer, a Jewish photographer from Šalovice, murdered in the Auschwitz concentration camp."
