The Museum of the Revolution Celje, today the Museum of Recent History Celje, was established as an independent institution in 1963. In the beginning, it was mainly concerned with collecting and presenting material from the period of World War II, but in the second half of the 1980s, it began to systematically collect and research material from the period before and after it. With the birth of the new state in 1991 and the renaming of the museum, new guidelines for the museum's collection policy were outlined, museum material from the entire 20th century began to be collected, and new collections were created. The Posters collection was established as an independent collection in 1993.
