February 13, 1948
The year 1948 is remembered by some for the dispute with the inform bureau, which ended in disaster for a number of ardent soldiers of the revolution in Slovenia. Others remember it for the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine, and still others, especially in Japan and the USA, for the production of the first microwave oven and Honda engine. The first five-year plan was implemented in Slovenia (and in Yugoslavia) and a public loan was also issued for this purpose, the first population census after liberation was carried out and the first post-war Slovenian film, On Your Own Land, was filmed. Those whose memory reaches back far enough will also remember the Colorado potato beetles that attacked socialist-grown potato fields. We can read about this and much more in numerous articles in the newspaper, which began publishing again this year in Celje after a year of silence.
This way regularly, with the new name Celjski tednik. And what were the main reasons that the newly born stars shone clearly and successfully above the Celje information sky? "The rapid development of industry and the necessity of a parallel transformation of our agriculture and the corresponding mental transformation of our people also called for a new publication of the Liberation Front to be published in Celje", it was written in the editorial of the first issue, which saw the light of day on Saturday, February 13, 1948. How the godfathers of Celjski tednik imagined the editorial policy of the newspaper, is revealed to us in the continuation of the same editorial by an unknown editorialist. Among other things, it was written: "Celje is an important industrial city, whose working people are involved with great enthusiasm in the implementation of the basic tasks of our five-year plan. In doing so, we often encounter errors that stem from ignorance, from superficial organization and agitation, and sometimes also from the malicious inhibition of our development by people who do not care about the progress of our country. It is precisely this problematic of our terrain that the new bulletin will cover and thereby become an organizer, agitator and educator of our working masses. It will show the people how the basic political line of our people's government and the Front is being implemented here, in our terrain, and will thus include every working person in the building of socialism. "Not only workers in industrial plants, but also the rural peasant population were "promised" help on the path of transition to a socialist society, because the Celje Weekly "will raise interest in cooperatives and the construction of cooperative homes and thereby make its contribution to the correct inclusion of our agriculture in the planned economy."
That the "new bulletin" in Celje truly "helped all the working masses in building socialism and their intellectual re-education" was closely monitored by the pillar of the editorial staff at the time, Lojze Jurc, who came to Celje as a partisan, namely to the propaganda commission, and to the position of editor from the ranks of youth activists. He was known as a harsh editor, and it is to his credit that the Celjski tednik became and remained what it is today, a regional newspaper with a rich tradition and its own identity.
