National project Growing up with books It promotes a reading culture among young people. It motivates primary and secondary school students to read and encourages them to visit public libraries. 

The project involves the Public Book Agency of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, the Association of Public Libraries, the National Institute of Education of the Republic of Slovenia, the Association of School Librarians of Slovenia, the Association of Slovenian Writers, primary schools, secondary schools, Pionirska - the center for youth literature and librarianship at the City Library of Ljubljana, and public libraries.

The goals of the Growing with Books project are:

• promoting the accessibility of high-quality and original Slovenian youth fiction,
• promotion of top domestic creators of youth fiction,
• promoting motivation for reading among schoolchildren and their visits to public libraries,
• Motivating publishers to include contemporary Slovenian writers in publishing programs for young people and increasing the share of published original Slovenian youth fiction.

We will also be implementing the project for 7th graders and 1st year students in the 2025/2026 school year (from September 10, 2025 onwards).
