Kovic's book The Morning Walker is like a necklace, on which various ornaments are strung in a seemingly random sequence, but which ultimately merge into a harmonious and appealing whole. The writer's morning walks on the outskirts of Ljubljana, regular and consistent, regardless of the weather and season, are the thread that connects glimpses of walkers, memories from different periods of life and small stories about people - famous and important, as well as those who rarely make it into books, but are therefore no less interesting, special and beautiful than flowers, grass, trees, birds and water, which also find their place in the story. The outskirts as a space and the process of walking is a metaphor for the writer's view of what is being told, a metaphor for a portion of the life path he has traveled, for his position in life and as a writer. The walker on the outskirts is not accompanied by bitterness, perhaps just a hint of nostalgia. The margins in this book are a place for mature wisdom, benevolence, and a fair pinch of humor. Highly recommended!
