Virtual Literary Cafés (VLK) are a project of the Central Library of Celje, created during the first Covid quarantine, in the form of online literary conversations with top Slovenian and foreign literary creators.

On this cultural holiday, we are starting a new round of VLK with Ana Svetel, a prose writer, poet and young researcher at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. The talk will be about her short prose collection Good company: stories about transportation, which was published in 2019 by LUD Literatura.

The Dobreknjige.si portal wrote about the collection, among other things: A stranger gets into the car, or maybe several of them. The driver and his passengers have a long journey ahead of them, during which they need to spend time together as best as possible, fill the silence, or not. Many things can happen during the drive. Old acquaintances meet, secrets, beliefs, prejudices come to light, character traits are revealed, personal stories, plans, fears are revealed. Some drives pass faster, others can be fatal for the participants. Each drive from the collection of twenty-one short stories about transportation skillfully illustrates modern society. As a perceptive observer and skilled writer, the author has prepared a collection of short stories that draw the reader into herself, so that she can read them to the end.

The Book of Surprises, for which Ana received a nomination for the Novo mesto short award last year, promises an unforgettable festive evening.
