Jerneja Jezernik – writer, translator and the most prolific translator of Alma M. Karlin’s works – and Dr. Marija Počivavšek, historian and museum councilor of the Museum of Recent History Celje, will jointly prepare a literary lecture that will shed light on the importance of female authors in the cultural history of Celje through the interpretation of the works of Alma M. Karlin and Božena Orožen. Both authors have each written their mark on the literary history of Celje as extremely important and prolific authors in their own fields: Karlin as a world traveler and writer, Orožen as a translator, literary historian, pioneer among Alma Karlin researchers and creator of cultural-historical trails across the Savinja region and Slovenia. The lecture will enable participants to understand the literary and cultural-historical context and the significance of their work, as well as their place in the Slovenian and European literary space.
Dr. Alenka Hren Medved and Janja Jedlovčnik will also participate in the local history evening.
The event is part of a literary events project co-financed by the Public Book Agency of the Republic of Slovenia.
