Eight comedies have been selected for this year's Comedy Days festival, five of which have been translated. Could we say that we are importing laughter? How much (and to whom) is a good translation of a good text self-evident? How much do translators have to put themselves on their toes – and what do they have to put themselves on their toes so that in the end everything is as it should be? Is laughter as translatable as it can be contagious? How do we translate humor, wit, irony, how do we crack the hard nuts of jokes, puns and other witty ideas? And whose rules do we ultimately follow?
