You are invited to the tenth lecture by M.A. Rozman, entitled The Foundation of Scientific Discourse in Antiquity.
Philosophy is a way of thinking that turns to the world by questioning. The birth of Western philosophy was marked by the question; "What is the foundation of the world?", which has a completely naturalistic connotation. The pre-Socratics each search for their own "arche", which is in one way or another closer to concrete ideas than to abstract concepts. Socrates is the one who finally places thinking on an abstract level, which is upgraded by both of his key heirs, Plato and Aristotle. After Socrates' death, a fundamental upheaval occurs in Greek culture, which, according to F. Nietzsche, is marked by the victory of theoretical knowledge and scientific discourse in the entire Western mentality.
