The question of beauty and consumer society
Continuing the question of the paradox that the place and role of pleasure represents today. Everywhere we turn, we are ruled by aesthetic criteria. We live in a highly aestheticized world of commercials and advertising, within a pop culture that creates aesthetic trends that ruthlessly eliminate everything that does not measure up to the aforementioned dictate. Perhaps part of the answers to questions about the role of aesthetic norms is offered by history itself and its taste, that is, how and why it changes? At the same time, it also reminds us that beauty is not beauty in itself and that beauty can also be ugly and vice versa.

Key highlights of the topic:
Umberto Eco; Examples of the attitude towards beauty through literary images and visual art
Plato and Immanuel Kant; The question of the good or the question of the useful as the starting point of the aesthetic norm
