You are cordially invited to the Celje presentation of the comic and a conversation with the comic's author Alma M. Karlin, a cosmopolitan from the province.
Autumn brings the fruits of hard work: both in nature and in art. Marijan Pušavec, the most experienced Slovenian comic book screenwriter, and Jakob Klemenčič, a skilled Slovenian comic book artist, have published a comic book biography of the most interesting Celje woman, writer, polyglot and world traveler Alma M. Karlin in Stripburger, the most prominent Slovenian comic book magazine. Marijan Pušavec, who works in the local history department of the Central Library of Celje, does not leave his historical texts to the imagination, but rather bury himself in documentation and archives in order to convey the most authentic historical experience. That is why he delved into Alma's life and work, read and reviewed a small sea of her novels, travelogues, articles, letters and unpublished archival material, and composed a biographical script for a comic book about this extremely interesting and unique personality from Slovenian cultural history.
Jakob Klemenčič is an experienced comic book author who likes to write his own scripts, but this time he indulged in tandem work and transformed Pušavč's script into full-fledged comic book images, through which Alma tells her life story in the first person.
The comic biography Alma M. Karlin, Cosmopolitan from the Province consists of four completed chapters: 'Cilli', 'London', 'The World' and 'Celje', in which we follow the life of this unusual woman from childhood onwards through health problems, the early death of her father and a tormented relationship with her mother to meeting her life partner Thea Gamelin, problems with the post-war authorities and death in poverty. The longest chapter shows the climax of the comic, a seven-year journey around the world.
