During the extensive renovation of the Celje city center in 2013 and 2014, the rich and previously undiscovered remains of two ancient Roman villas and the basement of a medieval town hall were discovered in front of the building at Glavni trg 17. The quality of the find surprised and shook some of the previously known facts about ancient Celje. Soon, experts from the Institute and the Celje Regional Museum realized that these were remains of exceptional importance that needed to be presented in situ, i.e. at the site of the find itself. The author of today's anniversary, architect Nande Korpnik, also joined the project. Since the finds were directly under the previous walking surface, the creative and conservation team decided to present them as part of the pavilion, which was ceremonially opened in the autumn of three years ago.
The unique pavilion, which represents a synergy of knowledge and creativity of the best individuals in the fields of conservation and architecture in Celje, has received the prestigious European Heritage Award this year. It will be presented by its author and conceptual father, architect Nande Korpnik.
The lecture will be held in the Levstik Hall.
