As part of this year's Fabula selection, we will present an essay collection A canopy with unknown fruits Helene Koder. The book is part of a selection of the best literary works by Slovenian authors from the last two years, chosen by a group of renowned literary experts and literary critics. The collection A canopy with unknown fruits was included in the selection by Alenka Urh, who highlights the work as an exceptional example of contemporary Slovenian essayism.

“The collection consists of eleven essays in which Helena Koder ponders art, literature, memory, death and transience with inexhaustible associative and reflective power. In her essays, the author, a long-time screenwriter and director, combines rich cultural experience, ethical sensitivity and poetic expression, consciously abandoning presumed objectivity in favor of the personal, sharp perspective of the reader and creator. The texts are inspired by fragments of everyday life – from books, poems, films and social events – and develop into profound contemplations on human existence and the symbolic role of art in the contemporary world. With a flexible, unobtrusive writing style that establishes a profound, sometimes intimate relationship with the reader, the author reveals a series of ideas, views and mental starting points. The Crown with Unknown Fruits is established as a hymn to art and thinking that defies the logic of productivity and utilitarianism and acts as a silent but binding call to an authentic attitude – in art and in life.”
