What happens when violence against the body causes loss. As in the intimate history of women, in which their position of non-existence is revealed. Therefore, women in this (social) imaginary remain silent and give their bodies to be inscribed with the power, meaning, and life of the other, as if they were inscribed in the position of the non-existent and invisible. What happens when your body is no longer yours? As non-existent in itself, as a state of belonging to someone or something else (some other meaning). The development of the body is threatened, since movement and contact with the outside world are prohibited. What can the anxiety of limitation cause? The body becomes someone else's property. Is there an alternative - a rebellion against this state? Girls use their bodies in several phases for a safe environment for their existence: a body that does not exist, a body that emerges, a body that grows, and a body that expands and takes up its own space, to which it belongs.
About the band SAME BABE
The group was formed in the spring of 2003 to participate in a literary evening dedicated to the poet Janez Menart. They have performed at all major chanson, ethno and related festivals in Slovenia and have released three albums: a CD of Janez Menart's poetry set to music Za ljubi kruhek in njene črne črne lase (2007), Terezianska (2011), on which they presented their original songs, their vision of folk songs and music settings of renowned Slovenian poets (Kajetan Kovič, Frane Milčinski – Ježek), and the conceptual and entirely original album Dobri možje (2013), named after the winning song of the Slovenian chanson festival, which presented the group in an even bolder light than usual. According to critics, the album represents a model example of alternative chanson both on a musical and lyrical level (the author of the lyrics is Viki Baba). And while Same babe previously did not limit themselves in genre at all, but were still characterized sonically by the "skiffle" sound of a four-piece acoustic group, the band has recently been operating in an expanded six-piece lineup, which has allowed it to significantly expand its soundscape - everything from intimate a cappella and acoustic-minimalistic compositions to full-blooded rock, often with touches of jazz and funk. The band proved this on their new album Vraži bend (2019), which is the band's first "electric album".
