The star of Croatian literature Kristian Novak is coming to the last Virtual Literary Café in May with his novel Gypsy, but the Most Beautiful.
In a conversation with Kristian Koželj, the event could also be called [Kristian squared], he will present the work, "a masterful literary achievement that creates full-blooded heroes and with them the real world from marginalized people, often condemned to secondary or stereotyped roles in literature. The young Roma Sandi falls in love with Milena, a divorced forty-year-old who has just lost her job through injustice. Nuzat, a Kurd from Mosul, flees danger and seeks a (better) life. Plančić, a PR man for the Zagreb police, tries to cover up a scandal. In the midst of all these stories, a corpse appears, which makes the novel readable on the surface as a suspenseful crime novel, while deeper down, the social and societal drama of the present unfolds, transcending the boundaries of fiction."
