Dragan Velikić was born in Belgrade in 1953 and grew up in Pula, Croatia. Velikić has published twelve novels, three collections of short stories, and six books of essays. His works have been translated into eighteen European languages, Arabic, and Persian, in a total of eighty foreign editions.
For his novel Russian Window (2007), he received the NIN Award and the Meša Selimović Award in Serbia, and the Mitteleuropa Award in Austria. In 2014, it was published in the collection Sto slavonskih romanov leta (One Hundred Slavic Novels of the Year) in Slovenian translation by Matej Krajnec. In 2013, Dragan Velikić received the Budapest City Prize for Literature, and in 2019, the Vilenica International Literary Award.

The fifth Slavic Literature Festival will feature eight authors from seven Slavic countries, who will present themselves to audiences in Ljubljana, Maribor and Celje. Their works are included in the collection One Hundred Slavic Novels, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The collection, which has published 106 novels so far, is an important project that has connected seven publishing houses from seven Slavic countries, 108 authors and more than 60 translators, and through mutual translations into Slavic languages, has brought novels written after the fall of the Berlin Wall closer to a wider circle of readers.
