The Celje Central Library and the Miško Knjižka Café cordially invite you to spend some time with Drago Medved over a good drink this year.
We will talk about the importance of wine in Slovenian ethnological tradition, the culture of drinking and the role of wine in cuisine and gastronomy. Of course, we will also consolidate our knowledge practically, as the lecture will also include a tasting of top-quality Slovenian wines.
About the lecturer:
Journalist, publicist, writer, painter and wine culture expert Drago Medved was born in 1947 in Ponikva.
He studied journalism while working and was involved in literary and artistic creation and writing on local history topics. He was, among other things, a journalist at To the new weekly (1978–82 editor-in-chief) and To work (1989–92). Since 1993 he has been working as a freelancer.
He has been involved in drinking and culinary culture for twenty years and lectures on wine culture. He is a knight of the Slovenian Knighthood of the Twelfth Order of St. Fortunatus and a knight of wine in the Ordo equestris vini Europae. So far, he has written more than 20 books, some of which have been translated; seven of them deal with wine culture: The Vine of Life (1992), The most beautiful vines in Slovenia (1995), Wine breviary (1997, also English edition), Champagne, the happiness of the world (1999), One Hundred Truths About Wine (2001), Refošk, a true fairy tale about the red king (2008, co-author), Istenič sparkling wines, the life story of the Istenič family (2009).
He edited the supplement in Naša ženi for ten years. Heritage, is the author of the concept and screenwriter of the TV series Truths about wine (1998, 1999). He writes prose and poetry and was the editor of the literary magazine for several years. Faces, and is now a contributor and member of the editorial board of the journal Sign.
Since 2002, he has been more intensively involved in painting and has so far had around twenty solo and the same number of group exhibitions at home and abroad.
