You are invited to the opening and viewing of the photography exhibition by Celje photographer and writer Franci Horvat NATURAL PEARLS OF SLOVENIA

At 5:30 p.m. there will be a lecture in the Study Reading Room on the 3rd floor.

Franci Horvat about the exhibition:

"Modern societies, with their developmental consequences, have a negative impact on the conditions in nature. Data on the state of biodiversity and trends in its decline are telling. Unspoiled nature is disappearing. There is an ever-widening realization that unbridled economic growth and the way we use natural resources are leading us to the brink of survival as a species.

Parts of nature that we are particularly aware of are called natural values (natural heritage, natural landmarks).

From a very early age, humans have attributed intangible meanings – values – to certain phenomena and forms in nature. Valuation is extremely personal and depends on the consciousness of knowledge of the individual, as well as that of society as a whole, which is why the view of values in nature is constantly changing.

The idea of nature protection emerged when the first negative phenomena began to appear. The initial steps in nature protection were taken by individuals who, by describing natural values (one of the first in our country was JV Valvasor) and observing their threats, attempted to protect individual parts of nature with public initiatives. The goal of nature protection is its preservation.

Slovenia is very rich in natural values and attractions. Unfortunately, due to industry, these natural pearls are disappearing (at least some of them). The once clean Savinja, which attracted bathers from near and far and was the pride of Celje, is now more or less interesting for walks along it. The same is happening with some other rivers in Slovenia. Some of the mighty trees show a shabby appearance due to numerous interventions in nature and climate change.

The purpose of the photography exhibition is to draw attention to the natural values-beauties-pearls that surround us and to encourage us to behave appropriately towards them.”
