A travelogue lecture by Damjan Jevšnik, who will take us to Rodrigues, a lesser-known, secluded tropical island in the Indian Ocean, away from the tourist crowds. It is only 18 kilometers long and eight kilometers wide. The friendly and relaxed locals are predominantly mulatto Catholics. Rodrigues differs from its much larger neighbor, Mauritius, in that it is less populated and receives significantly fewer tourists. The sea around the island is very clean and full of marine life, the coasts are picturesque and undeveloped. It is characterized by a vast shallow lagoon, in which women catch octopuses and men catch various fish. In the interior (in a nature reserve), there are a lot of land turtles, the island is hilly and full of beautiful views of the blue of the empty ocean all around. The island, which is characterized by peace, has footpaths, underground caves and in some areas preserved authentic vegetation. Since we travel to Rodrigues via the larger island of Mauritius, we also visited its picturesque south. We admired the lush vegetation in the national park, tasted rum in an old distillery, and swam on the most beautiful beaches.
