General Rudolf Maister was not only a general and a poet, but also a great lover of the Slovenian word and books. His love of collecting books grew into a large private library with almost 6,000 items. In 1998, through a gift contract between the heirs, it came under the auspices of the University of Ljubljana and the Government of the Republic of Slovenia declared the Maister Library a cultural monument of national importance.
