Lecture and workshop on World Poetry Day: PRECARIOUS WORKERS AND CHAIN POETRY WORKSHOP (90 minutes)

The lecture will focus on the issues that precarious workers experience today in various areas of everyday life, from the problem of finding casual work to providing opportunities to improve their situation. We will focus in particular on the situation of workers in culture.

The lecture will be followed by a workshop on composing group chain poetry, which we will "recycle" from the poems of Valentin Vodnik, as this year marks the 200th anniversary of his death. Workshop participants will draw cut words from Vodnik's poems and, at their discretion, assemble them into new verses, which we will form into literary collages to commemorate World Poetry Day.

Both the lecture and the workshop are suitable for all age, professional and interest groups.

In the workshop, we will delve into the skills of writing short reports and also longer, more comprehensive book reviews, in which, in addition to argumentative critical starting points, we will also provide our subjective reflections on the work we have read. We will look at some examples of quality book reviews that have been published in various media, and “scratch” the most common mistakes and pitfalls that book reviewers and critics make. We will choose a few books to analyze and compare our reviews. In the workshop, we will focus on both the content and stylistic analysis of the text, paying attention to the details that enrich the review and give it a personal touch.

About the workshop author: Miša Gams has been writing book reviews for 15 years, which she publishes in the magazines Literatura, Mentor, Dialogi and on the web portals Airbeletrina and LudLiteratura. During this time, she has published over a hundred book reviews, and has also published four poetry collections. She is happy to share her knowledge and experience with anyone interested in writing book reviews and literature.
