WORLD-FAMOUS HIMALAYAN POET YUYUTSU SHARMA

At the end of November, we will host the world literary star, Himalayan poet Yuyuts Ram Dass Sharma. We will present the translated edition of his collection Quaking Cantos/Pretreseni spevi, translated into Slovenian by Barbara Pogačnik.

Yuyutsu Ram Dass Sharma is a world-renowned Himalayan poet and journalist who was born and educated in northern India, but moved to Kathmandu at an early age, where he now spends most of his time with his family. He writes in Nepali and English, and has published more than ten collections of poetry that have been translated into many languages. He travels and reads extensively in different parts of the world, most often in the USA, where he currently leads a poetry workshop at Columbia University in New York. He has led similar workshops in the past at many other universities, including Germany, Canada, and California. His only collection of poetry in Slovenian so far is Jezero Fewa in konj (Sodobnost International, 2008); he also toured Slovenia upon its release. Quaking Cantos was written after the catastrophic earthquake in Nepal in 2015, during which more than twelve thousand people died and were seriously injured.

Kristian Koželj will talk to the poet, and they will also be joined by the legendary Slovenian writer and editor Evald Flisar.
The event will be held on Wednesday, November 28, at 6 p.m. in the Music-Film department.

The event is being prepared in collaboration with KUD Sodobnost International.
