You are invited to the second lecture in the series of travel lectures by Prof. Janja Simoniti. In the cold of November, she will take us to warm Costa Rica. The Republic of Costa Rica is a Central American country bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Costa Rica means “rich coast” in Spanish. The characteristic phrase “Pura Vida” means “life is good”, and locals often use it instead of greetings, farewells, or to express satisfaction, and it expresses their way of life. The country has been considered one of the happiest countries in the world for several years.

High ecological awareness and the development of eco-tourism are also important. Costa Rica is known for its numerous national parks, which cover almost a quarter of its territory, for its perfectly preserved rainforests and cloud forests, active, extinct and dormant volcanoes, tropical beaches on the Caribbean and Pacific sides, and for its extremely rich and diverse fauna and flora. Holidays can also be diversified with many activities such as surfing, trekking, observing and exploring the wilderness, and adrenaline-pumping abseiling on steel wires, etc.

Lectures are held in the Levstik Hall.
