The lecture, in collaboration with Celje Pharmacies, will take place in Study reading rooms.
The lecturer wrote in the presentation: We speak of the popular term "fever", or elevated body temperature or hyperthermia, if the measured body temperature exceeds the following values:
- in adults: axillary 37.0°C, rectal 37.8°C, oral 37.5°C and ear 38°C.
- in children, underarm temperature is 37.2°C, rectal temperature is 38°C, oral temperature is 37.5°C, and ear temperature is 38°C.
Elevated body temperature is not a disease, but rather a defensive reaction of the organism, which can be provoked by various factors called pyrogens. These are most often seasonal viruses, but can also be various bacteria, or other factors that are not friendly to the body. The penetration of pyrogens into the organism triggers the activation of the immune system, resulting in an increase in body temperature. Elevated body temperature then changes the favorable breeding environment for pyrogens. For some, it is already lift body temperature provokes their death. At the same time, upon rising body temperature is lowered by serum concentrations of iron, copper and zinc, which are essential elements for growth and reproduction of pyrogens.
