You are invited to a local history evening and presentation of the book by Zvon Dežnak from Celje, titled Self-governing Tycoon, which will be held in the Study Reading Room of the University for the Third Age. The author will be interviewed by Srečko Kolar, president of the Celje Pensioners' Association.
Zvone Dežnak is known to the people of Celje primarily as the former director of the famous Celje textile factories. He began his career at the Prebold Textile Factory, continued it as the director of the Toper Elegant company, then took over the management of the Metka textile factory in Celje, and achieved his greatest success as the director of the Toper company.
»"In front of me sat a man from the generation that co-created the entire Celje textile industry: Prebold Textile Factory, Metko, Elegant, Mond, Elkroj, Prevent and of course Toper. These were also the times when Slovenian ski aces and ski jumpers achieved their first victories in World Cup competitions and Toper was everywhere. The generation of people who are saying goodbye to their active working lives today still remembers with pride and nostalgia the Olympic Games in Sarajevo and the Toper brand clothing worn by numerous competitors, journalists, officials, as well as the boys and girls who looked after the visitors to the Olympics. The Toper logo was visible on the screens of all the world's television stations. Somewhere in the background of this "white circus" was Zvone Dežnak, like one of them."»
