3. 11. 1908 – Dr. Ivan Dečko, a leading Slovenian politician in the era of the Confederacy in Styria, died in Feldhof near Graz (Austria). He was born on 9. 8. 1859 in Središče ob Dravi.
After graduating from Maribor Gymnasium, he continued his law studies in Graz, graduating in 1883. He first worked as a trainee in Maribor, moved to Celje in 1885, continued his practice with Josip Sernec, passed the bar exam, and opened his own office in 1891.
He entered politics as a trainee, was first elected to the Styrian Provincial Assembly in 1890 and remained there for three terms. As the first Slovenian deputy to submit an interpellation in the Provincial Assembly in the Slovene language, in 1887 he was the first in Styria to obtain a Slovene entry in the land register on behalf of M. Vošnjak. With his systematic political work, he contributed greatly to the victories of the Slovenes in municipal elections; in 1889 the Slovenes won the Celje district seat for the first time, later the district school board, and in 1899 Dr. Dečko even became the deputy district chief.
