February 26, 1959 – Celje theater actress Meta Baš, born on October 3, 1876 in Celje, died.
Her father was a Slovenian notary in Celje, a national politician and journalist, Lovro Baš, and her mother was Ida, née Miheljak; she was a cousin of Alma M. Karlin.

She finished middle school in Celje, then studied pedagogy, German and French in Vienna. She furthered her knowledge in Paris and English in London. The head of the drama department of the Celje Singing Society, Vladimir Ravnihar, discovered her talent for acting and her wide-ranging knowledge and included her among his theater students at the Celje National Hall. From New Year's Eve 1897, when she first appeared as the widow Libinska in the burka Poglavje I., II. and III. (Gustav Pfleger–Moravský), until 1910, when she took to the stage for the last time, she participated in around 20 productions. Roles: Baroness Rošička (Rudolf Hahn: The Shoemaker Baron, 1899), Franica (Karl Morré: The Poor Andrejček, 1899), Marica (Ernst Raupach: The Miller and His Daughter, 1899), Lavra (Fran Govekar: The Legionnaires, 1909), Peasant Osojka (Salomon Hermann Mosenthal: On Osojah, 1910). She also appeared in Jan Nep. Štĕpánek's burka The Mill Thief, or the Slovene and the German (1899) and in Johann Nep. Nestro's singing play Lumpacij Vagabund (1900). 

Baševa was distinguished by her natural, meticulously crafted acting, which she guided with her knowledge of European theaters. As an amateur actress, she surpassed the level of many professional Slovenian actresses of the time. She was capable of a wide range of creations, ranging from salon to peasant plays. She was a pleasant appearance, excellent in acting. She was also a good singer and reciter of Slovenian poetry. In the first decade of the 20th century, she was the central actress of the Celje Slovenian Theater. Later, she withdrew from public life and took care of her sick parents.
