June 2, 1945 – The first issue of Nova poti, the predecessor of today's Nova tednik, was published. 
Almost on the centenary of the first Celje Slovenske novine, the Celjske slovensko novine, which began publication on July 1, 1848, the newspaper Nova pot was born, the ancestor of today's Novi tednik. Both newspapers share some common features, but also some important differences. Both newspapers were founded in pivotal periods; the first in the revolutionary European year of 1848, which made a significant contribution to the formation of national consciousness among Slovenians, and the second in 1945 as a child of a real social revolution that turned the old world upside down.

In recent years, the Local History Department of the Central Library of Celje has carried out a series of projects to digitize Celje newspapers and other older publications, including Domovina, Celjski zbornik, Nova tednik, Nova doba, Mohorjev koledar, etc., which are published in the Digital Library of Slovenia.
