May 2, 1891 – Homeland, the first issue of the first Slovenian political newspaper was published in Celje

"Why would the Slovenes of Celje be without a newspaper when the Germans have had their own newspaper for so long? The Slovene people along the Savinja River also like to read news and good teachings in their own language, if they are brought by a well-edited newspaper. To this end, with the help and encouragement of patriots, I began publishing a new newspaper in my printing house called Domovina." Thus wrote its owner and first editor Dragotin Hribar in the editorial of the first issue of Domovina, which was published on May 2, 1891.
