The Internet Archive is a non-profit digital library based in San Francisco. Its mission is to provide “universal access to all knowledge.” It began archiving content online in 1996. It provides free public access to collections of digitized materials, including websites, software, games, music, films, videos, moving images, and about three million freely available books. The Wayback Machine search engine allows you to search through archived content. In addition to its archival function, the Internet Archive actively advocates for a free and open Internet.
