After a successful school year, Pico wants a vacation by the sea, in a hotel complex with swimming pools and entertainers, and he would like to finally ride a jet ski. Instead, he finds himself in an ancient cottage just a few kilometers from home, school, and Vienna. Without internet, without even a television. Even a room with a balcony, from which there is a direct view of the dead arm called Lakužnica, does not soften this blow of fate, only the pier and the rowboat offer some hope.

Pico begins to discover a world of strange sounds, a river flow and a bird sanctuary, and his new friend Juanita introduces him to beavers. But while Juanito and Pica are completely fascinated by these creatures, the rest of the neighbors are upset about the damage that the beavers are causing to their land. The complaints are getting worse, the hunters are the loudest, the tension is growing... until the fateful moment.
