Evald Flisar, the most translated Slovenian writer and playwright, in his novel Girls I Remember reveals in five pictures the life story of a young woman who is fatally marked by wrong decisions. The dialogues, in which the lines often act like elegant, but no less painful, swordsmanship, reveal ruthlessness, sometimes even malice, while the sometimes poetically gentle-sounding passages bring lucid insights into the mental landscapes of the characters. Thus, a picture emerges before us of a network of broader social relationships and personal entrapment in a fate that we co-create with our decisions. (Emka.si)
